Hi! I’m Vanessa. I’m a sophomore interested in computer science and education. I started programming in the middle of high school and decided to continue doing so in college as well. This summer I got to teach high school students about the basics of computer science and web development which was really fulfilling. 

Aside from this, I also really like music. I’ve been playing violin in orchestras for almost a decade, and have recently been working on solo pieces. In my free time, I’ve been trying to teach myself piano as well. 

Career wise, I’d like to work at the intersection of these two fields or stay in academia. With this line of thought, I’m excited to explore different ways two seemingly unrelated subjects could be brought together. So far, I’ve taken different CS and music classes at Carleton, but have also taken ones based on research writing, and now, digital humanities. In the future, I’d like to learn more about music production and the role software engineering plays in electronic music. 

Overall, noticing the overlap between music and technology has been really intriguing, and I’d like to work on how computer science can be used for artistic pursuits.
